Shure DMK57-52 Drum Microphone Kit

The DMK57-52 Drum Mic Kit is a conveniently packaged selection of microphones and mounts, designed to offer a core package of microphones for recording and performing drummers at a great price. The Drum Mic Kit includes three SM57 microphones, one Beta 52A microphone, three A56D drum-mounting systems, and a lightweight, durable carrying case.

  • The industry standard for snare drum, and a reliable and high-performing choice for toms, Shure's cardioid dynamic SM57 microphone features a contoured frequency response that cuts through the mix with exceptional impact, while reproducing sound accurately.

  • Perfect for the kick drum, the supercardioid Beta 52A derives its low-end punch and sonic presence from a carefully tailored frequency response. Equipped with its own pneumatic shock mount, the Beta 52A is designed with an integral locking stand mount for quick-and-easy set up.

  • Shure's A56D universal drum mounting system can be used to position microphones virtually anywhere - on drum rims, microphone stands, even cymbal stands. Designed with captive parts to prevent the loss of individual pieces, the A56D is small, secure, and can be used with any standard microphone, making it a great tool for both stage and studio environments.

  • Top quality microphones and an affordable price makes the Drum Mic Kit an exceptional value for the performing drummer.

  • Suggested Applications: Kick Drum, Snare Drums , Rack/Floor Toms

4Good mics, great price.  Nov 08, 2009
By M. A. Lane
If you're doing live sound or a budget, or just starting to get into decent recording gear, this is definitely not a bad place to start. You can put an SM57 in front of just about anything and get a usable sound. A lot of people love them on snare's and guitar cabs, and get fantastic sounds from them. I'm sure you could get BETTER sound from other mics, but it's a very versatile mic, and is a great bang for your buck. It would never hurt to have 3 in your mic locker... especially if you're doing live sound. I haven't used mine live so I can't comment on the included rim mounts as I use stands in the studio, but they seem like they'd get the job done.

Given the choice, I'd probably prefer to own an AKG D112 over the Beta 52... but I couldn't pass up the price of this pack. I have both, and use them for different things, depending on the sound I want. I'm definitely not complaining about the Beta 52. I'm super happy with it, and it definitely has its place in the studio and venue. The Beta 52 is less expensive... especially if you buy it in this pack. So why limit yourself to one kick mic? Start with this pack, and if you feel like you need another mic down the road when you have extra cash, get a different one. The more the better.

If your goal is to mic a drum kit on a budget, get these and a budget pair of small diaphragm condensers for overheads (MXL 603s perhaps), and you're set.

If you know exactly what you want and don't mind spending a bit more, buy different mics. If you're on a budget (studio OR live), are just getting into the realm of decent gear and need a starting point, or happen to be searching for a few SM57's and a Beta 52, this is the package for you!

5Industry standard at a great price  Jan 09, 2007
By Andrew W. Yates "awyates"
This is the best value in microphones around. You get 3 SM57s, which you can (and should) use for instruments other than drums--like guitar amps. Plus, you get a kick mic that doubles as a GREAT bass amp mic. Combine this package with a nice condenser, and you have a full complement of studio mics. This is THE BEST deal you will find on this mic package.

5Great price on TOP quality mics!  Dec 31, 2009
By Jeffrey L. Horton
These microphones are VERY high quality. SM57's are clear, clean and bulletproof... and after I put the Beta-52 in my kick drum, the 18s shook harder and the 15s punched tighter. The reason for my review, however, isn't to rave about these mics (they speak for themselves, do some research), but to rave about the PRICE. Just buying 3 SM57s individually will cost you $300. Add the Mic clips at $40 a piece, and you're at $420 already, and that doesn't even count the Beta 52, which is now cheaper than free! (and it's the most expensive mic in the kit!). What a deal. I bought 2. At first I wasn't sure I could use the other Beta 52, but I couldn't see paying MORE to buy the other 57s I needed... and as it turns out, that "extra kick mic" sounds GREAT on my 18" floor tom! If you need mics and want quality and aren't rich... BUY THIS SET!

5Drum Mic kit  Feb 06, 2009
By James Spot
If you are playing in a large venue and putting drums through the PA or recording, this is one of the two drum mic kits to get. The other kick drum mic to consider is the Audix D6, but the Shure B52 is used by many professionals, too. As far as the SM57's in the it go, they are the ultimate desert island mic - good on anything. The rim connectors to hold the mics work fine - you will need a small stand to attach the B52 with for the kick drum. Overall, this is one of the best kits out there at a reasonable price - it comes complete with a nice carry case as well.

5Awesome deal  May 22, 2008
By B. Ridley
After using lower priced, lower quality mics on my drums, I finally saved up and bought these. WOW! The difference is amazing. Toms, snare, bass drum, cymbals, guitar cabinet....all recorded crystal clear. There IS a reason these are the "industry standard." Amazing mics!
