3000mah 18v Dewal Replacement Battery Feb 07, 2010
By John Schroepfer 6 months ago I bought two $65 18v 3.0ah nickel metal hydride batteries from amazon. Both batteries now fail to take a charge in all of my 5 chargers. I have 10 nicad 18v batteries. The best are the Dewalt yellow and black 2.2ah nicads. The nimh batteries can not put out the current. They originally worked well in low current tools like radio or flash light and poorly in high current tools like saws. To summerize, nicads are cheaper, hold a charge longer, and will run in the tools better. Try to buy the largest nicad available 2200mah (2.2ah) or larger.

You get what you pay for!! Nov 24, 2008
By Skip Batteries can be a mystery if you don't know what you're looking for when buying. Dewalt batteries are no different. If memory serves me there are seven models of these batteries available! They range from the top of the line 3.3amp (3300 mah) Nickel Metal Hydride (NiMH) to the bottom of the barrel scrapings 1.3amp (1300 mah) Nickel Cadmium NiCD.
First of all I wouldn't even bother with ANY of the Nickel Cadmium (NiCD) varieties, I would definitely be looking for NiMH. All NiCD batteries have the memory problem where if you top it off before it's fully disharged it can start dying earlier and earlier on you. NOT GOOD if you use your tools for a living!! If memory serves me every model 2amp (2000 mah) and below is Nickel Cadmium (NiCD) and some above 2amp are NiCD as well.
This battery is the second best battery available out of seven models. It's a top notch NiMH battery and the life/runtime on it is outstanding. I've bought one that was slightly ill fitting in the charger but that was fixed in jiff with a small file by filig down a little of the plastic on the casing of the battery. I've bought several of these and only run into that problem once. But for the price difference from a name brand Dewalt battery I'll happily get my file out for a couple minutes!!

Overall I'm very pleased with this aftermarket battery so far. I have several and all have been good except one that fit a little tight in the charger and drill that I fixed easily. For what I saved they were WELL worth the money. This battery is competitive with batteries well over $100 EACH!! I'm happy.
