Great Product Feb 17, 2010 Outstanding battery charger, works great. Have the charger on my motorcycle since Nov, a little noisy but it does not bother me. Best charger I have bought. It even charges deep cycle batterys. Would recommend this charger to everyone. Has many functions to work on any battery. I use the 2 amp charge for my motorcycle and it shuts off automatically when charged 100%. Also charged my deep cycle battery before putting back in my camper after winter.
small but seems to work Feb 06, 2010 the shipping time as always with amazon was short. i like how they always get the product to me quick. when i received the charger and opened the box, i was amazed at the small size. i thought maybe i'd ordered a charger for my cell phone. not that small...but it is small. i didn't read the size listings when i ordered. i've used it twice this winter to keep my deep cycle batteries charged. it works. so, i guess in this case, size doesn't matter.

A Real Life Saver! Dec 17, 2009 With temps dipping down to -4 degrees lately, going out to my car to find it wont start is a real drag on a cold morning. My battery is an Optima red top, and its less than 9 months old...so I had a hard time thinking it went bad.
I received my SSC-1000A charger and ran out to the garage to figure out whats going on. I couldn't believe how light and small the charger was. All the cables (power, charger clamps) store neatly inside the unit which I though was great for storage.
I hooked up the cable clamps to my dead battery and watched the LED screen. It read 11.3 volts and 17% charge...I toughed out the freezing temps and stood watching the battery, slowly it came up but wouldn't get over 12 volts. I had my buddy jump the car and re-connected the charger, long story short my battery failed internally. I popped the + terminal off to check the alternator, things were fine there.
I ran the battery back to the auto store and exchanged it out. I returned home to hook the charger up to the new battery. It read 13.8 volts, and 65% charged, it started my ice cold car no problem.
I left the charger on the battery to monitor any drops in power, then turned it on to charge the new battery to 100%, the charger is a real life saver, and the LED screen saves having to pull out your voltmeter. I would highly recommend this charger to anybody who wants a versatile trickle/slow/fast charger, with options for all sorts of battery types.
You'll thank me on those cold winter days.
Schumacher SSC-1000A review Dec 12, 2009 I bought this charger to help maintain batteries for my for my small (2w) solar system that I use for backup power. We don't always get full sun days in Massachusetts. I charge Gel, AGM, and a couple of standard maintenance free batteries that were my `learner' batteries. The charger has a switch for charging each of these types. I usually use the 6 amp charge setting because my batteries are all under 35 ah. The charger works well, first giving an estimated % charge of the battery, and then charging when you press the appropriate switch settings. The desulfating mode is a bonus that I have not needed yet. I love it but everyone who has seen/heard it complains about the noise - a constant fan noise with clicking sounds every so often. A friend who borrowed it wished that it had an on/off button but it starts when you plug it in. Five stars from me but only four because of the noise.
Works without issue Sep 22, 2009 Very easy use, set the battery type and charge amps, and you're good to go. I have used this now on both a marine starting and marine deep cycle battery, and it does it's job with ease. Seeing the battery % really makes this easy to use. The only thing is that sometimes when you hook it up to a deep cycle battery it doesn't read correctly, where it will show really low battery %, like 10%. This is corrected by taking off the ground for a couple of seconds, and then replacing it. If you are charging an old battery for the first time, and aren't sure of where it stands, be ready for this possibility.
