Good alternative May 15, 2012
By John S I have had my BD 19" cordless for about 10 years. I replaced the battery back once a few years back from a local parts supplier for around $100. This time however, I went to Amazon, assuming I could find the battery pack cheaper. Of course the price has gone up, I think the BD battery pack was around $120, plus shipping. Then I found this PowerStar pack for about $25 less than the BD battery pack, so I ordered it. Got it within a week and installed it that evening. One thing to be aware of this is not a simple bolt in. The BD battery has screw in terminals while the PowerStar has flanges through which the cables are attached. I had the choice of buying nuts for the BD machine screws so I could attach the cables to the PowerStar flanges, but I opted for drilling out the cable holes and using the bolts that came with the PowerStar. A little work but it has all worked fine. Another note, both the PowerStar and the BD pack are two 12-volt batteries that are wired together. In the case of the BD pack the two batteries are stuck together with some sort of two sided adhesive tape. This is not the case for the PowerStar, so I just took some packaging tape and wrapped it around the batteries to hold them together. This worked fine. When I initially put the new batteries in I had a loose connection of which I was not aware, so I was disappointed a day and a half later when the system indicated it was still charging and I had no power. So as I was moving to put the old battery pack back in I discovered the loose connection, corrected it and in a couple of hours was able to confirm it was indeed charging. I mowed with it last night and all went well. So I highly recommend this as an alternative to the BD branded battery pack. I did not give it 5 stars because of the wiring issue I described above, but that is easily overcome.

By Robert Eilers I had an old battery operated lawn mower that wouldn't hold a charge any more. Dropped these in and it works good as new!
