Poor design Sep 22, 2009
By Priority One Business Communication The reason why your keypad has failed you and why you are here looking for a replacement is simple.
The circuit board was designed for 6mm contacts and the keypad was designed with 4mm contacts. The buttons on the rubber keypad are way too small! (For the number keys 1-9,*,0,#)
Worse yet, a switch works by connecting two sides of a circuit. These circuit contacts were designed with one side of the switch in the middle and the other side on an outside ring. Less than 5% of the 4mm button surface area contacts the outside ring! The surface area is just under 13 sq. mm. and the button uses about 0.6 sq. mm. to complete the circuit. All you need is that 0.6 sq. mm to wear out before the button fails.
Panasonic never made any improvements to the design. If you actually use the dial pad to dial out then it's guaranteed to fail (AGAIN). There are better after market options available. Why buy another identical defective part when you have a choice?
