Excellent, well priced phone system Sep 22, 2007

I got this to replace a Vtech phone that I'd had for 5 years. The Vtech was fine till I had to place it in my computer room to use the speaker phone and suddenly the range for both the wireless and the phones themselves dropped dramatically and the phone had a lot of noise. These phones (I'm using 5 through the answering machine base) have much better range, don't interfere with the wireless, use standard NiMH AAA batteries. The base is right next to the microwave and it has no problems since the phones use the DECT frequency. I don't know if the talk time as as long as they promised but it's certainly longer than the 1-2 hrs. from the Vtech. The phones have large buttons that are easy to use (unlike the Vtech), a nice uncluttered screen, easy to program and easy to use functions. Consumer Reports rated it a best buy and after using it for a while I completely agree.

caution: this is not a stand-alone phone Aug 10, 2008
By Nikwax I bought this as a stand-alone phone based on the description of this being "expandable." This is a handset to add to an existing system, this is not a base station or stand alone set.

Phone was defective in two ways. Jan 23, 2008
By Electronics Maven

After a few weeks use, phone garbled incoming voice mail so they were unintelligible and the display on one handset went dead. These breakdowns occurred at separate times so appear to be unrelated. Seller (6ave) would not honor Amazon's return policy even though my funds were paid to Amazon. Amazon's policy would have allowed an exchange but now this must be dealt with through Panasonic's warranty.
Disappointed in both the phone and the seller 6ave.

Great phone, great price! Jan 09, 2008

I bought the 3-extension base but added this one to replace another cordless phone that had died. Its great having one phone system for the whole house. All use the same batteries and all work well! Having only one base also seems to cut down on the amount of interference to other wireless devices. This extension works just as well as any of the original three that came with the device. Setup was a snap and voice is very clear!

Pros, but some cons Aug 13, 2007
By J. Ewing Pros: the clarity is excellent and when on speaker phone, the person to whom you are talking isn't aware of it because it's doesn't echo like other phones. I like the size and weight and the musical choices for ring tones. I got the model with the extra handset and that is nice. You can page the other phone to alert a person outside that they have a call instead of yelling out the window! I like the answering machine.. but .. a voice says "thank you for calling" after the call has ended and the caller has already hung up. What's up with that?
Cons: The keypad has no back light so it's hard to make calls in the dark unless you memorize the keypad. The wall adapter is a laugh. It snapped when I attempted to hang the phone. I called Panasonic and they only wanted 1.89 to replace it.. BUT .. with shipping it was 7.00 and change. That is laughable since the adapter is cheap plastic. I faxed proof of purchase and they agreed to send at no charge.. BUT .. the item is back ordered. I WONDER WHY!! I would imagine that everyone who has purchased this has had the same problem with the 'hanger'.
Having said all of that, I still rate this product a 4 because I would buy it again. They really do need to add a lighted keypad though. Even the cheapest of cheap phones offer that as a feature.
