DMW-MCFX35 underwater case with an FX35 Dec 06, 2008

Last month I decided to replace my Sony camera/case combo with the Panasonic FX35 Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX35K 10MP Digital Camera with 4x Wide Angle MEGA Optical Image Stabilized Zoom (Black) and this case, and have returned from my first diving trip using the panasonic camera. During the trip I took around 650 10MB images and over 20 minutes of HD video, writing to a single 8 GB card, which worked very well. Transcend 8GB SDHC Card The entire kit was approximately $450 which is a good value.
My first impressions of the case are that it is very well built, and extremely small, which makes it very easy to fit it in a BCD jacket pocket.
The FMCFX35 case comes with o-ring lubricant and silica pouches, but no anti-fog solution. I experienced no fogging, without using anti-fog solution and was pleased with this. All controls for the camera are easily accessible, and the viewing screen is quite large, which is a great advantage over my older Sony's 1.5" display!
The case has a diffuser filter built in, which certainly helped with backscatter, but the camera's flash is not very powerful...even at macro distances . After my first trip with this I plan to purchase an external flash -- that will make a huge difference in performance.
The battery life was excellent. It easily handled two dives per day with heavy flash use and video.
The image quality of the photos were good but needed work to make them great. Most required heavy sharpening in iPhoto, as well as color adjustment. I have made good looking 12"x16" prints from the images.
I have never shot movies underwater before, and this was a great feature! The camera shoots HD, and although their is a normal heavy blue cast which I am sure is correctable with a filter and I would suggest finding one that works for this camera.
I would buy this outfit again at this price point.
Work as expected Nov 12, 2010
By Ale This U/W case was a great enhancement to my diving experiences, I could exploit the potential of the wide angle objective of my DMC-FX48 underwater. The case is easy to set up, the controls are effective and usable underwater, slightly harder if using gloves but still usable. I would recommend buying this item.
Works with Leica C-Lux 3 too! Apr 01, 2009
By T. Humphreys I havn't gotten to test it yet, but every control is accessable, easy to use, and marked on the outside. The case feels pretty solid. I bought it for my Leica C-Lux 3 and it fits great! I can't wait to go out and get some surfing photos!

Foggs up instantly!!! Oct 19, 2009
By Vito Diciolla Disappointed with Panasonics cheap construction.... the buttons feel flimsy and the case fogs up extremely quickly even in the 80 degree waters of Hawaii.... I would not recommend this to a buyer and if I had to do it over again... I would buy the cannon powershot and its underwater case. Its superior construction and durability is worth alil extra money.
