Metra Axxess ASWC Universal Steering Wheel Control Interface (Black)

Finally, a simple solution to retaining the steering wheel controls of a vehicle when installing an aftermarket stereo. Introducing the Axxess ASWC, from Metra Electronics. This universal steering wheel interface is brand new for the 2010 line of Metra Axxess components and is designed to make the installers life much simpler. Unlike other steering wheel interfaces, the ASWC requires no manual programming. After making all the proper connections, this interface will automatically program itself with the new stereo and the vehicle. No more tedious programming of each button. The ASWC has a LED status light that will flash according to the programming and inform you when the sync is done. Its simple. Just plug it in and you are ready to go! Now installations can be faster, easier, and simpler! If you still prefer to do the programing manually, Axxess has left that as an option. No matter what type of vehicle or aftermarket stereo you are planning on installing, the ASWC has you covered! It is fully compatible with Pioneer, Sony, Alpine, Kenwood, Eclipse, JVC, and more. As long as the stereo has a wired steering wheel remote connection, the ASWC will connect and interface with the vehicle. Plus, the Metra ASWC is able to be updated. 5Works great  May 16, 2010
By Jason "jc in it"
I don't know why you would buy the alternative. I ripped out my PAC SWI jack because it wouldn't work right. Connected the simple three wires on this unit, turned on the ignition, and the unit programmed itself in about 30 seconds. And it works great! I have all my buttons working on my Chevy truck steering wheel. When I had the PAC SWI Jack installed, it took the installer quite a while to program it, and then I lost two of my steering wheel buttons because he said it just wont work. Now I have everything and it only took me about ten minutes to install the whole thing. And I have never done this before. The website instructions were perfect and easy.

5Much better than SWI PAC interface  Nov 10, 2010
By Bluescreen
Initially had the SWI PAC installed. Response delay to button press with SWI PAC was irritating. Sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn't. AXXESS ASWC has much faster response. Auto detect function worked as described. Easy install.

1Product Incompatibility -- Insufficient product compatibility testing  Apr 18, 2010
By Scooby Doo
I purchased this unit to restore my Steering Wheel Interface Control that I lost when I upgraded from my Factory stock radio. I researched the Metra Web site and it showed that the Metra Axxess ASWC would work with the JVC after market Radio. Well, the JVC head unit I purchased was a KD-AHD69 model and this Metra Axxess ASWC would not work at all. I followed the instruction to the TEE !!. I printed out the Vehicle specific instructions per the Metra web site and did EXACTLY as it said to do when installing and programming. No dice.....

Well, I surmised that the JVC KD-AHD69 model was too "new" to be compatible with the Axxess ASWC unit and it would not work without some form of Axxess ASWC software patch or something, and Metra web site did not mention anything of that sort....

SO, what did I do? I re-packaged up the product the way it came and contacted Amazon to see if they would authorize the return. Amazon was fabulous. They contacted "Discountjungle" who sold the product via Amazon site. Discountjungle sent me a return label (postage paid) so that I can return this and be properly credited. At least the Vendor and Amazon service worked. I would buy from Amazon again....

Conclusion? If your HEADUNIT is relatively new, I would not purchase this unit until you get the Manufacturer's assurance that this would work....

1Bad Product, Worse Support  Feb 05, 2011
By G. Troutman
Following specific directions in the user guide, I used this company's web site to download installation instructions which supposedly covered my exact vehicle. Although all the other connections were right on target, unfortunately the final connection to the SWC harness was not: the secondary connector their instructions pictured did not match the secondary connector in my vehicle. I tried every pin in my SWC harness to no avail. When I called their support line the tech seemed irritated that I had called. When I noted that I used their web site instructions he brusquely informed me that "I've never looked at our web site." Nice. Then he proceeded to parrot what the instruction on the site told me, to connect to a green wire with a red stripe - which did not exist in my vehicle. Upon which he instructed me to try all the pins and when I responded that I had already done so, he just asked me "So, is that it?"
Yeah, that's it, dude. I'll never buy another product from Metra again. Not that you care in the least.

4Works, if you can make sense of the instructions.  Apr 14, 2011
By S. Lynn
It's actually a simple process if you can understand the instructions. It took me a good 20 or so minutes of re-reading the instructions to figure out what is going on with all the wires and what that heck I am supposed to plug into what.

I installed this in a 2005 4 door Toyota Tacoma that I put a JVC KW-AVX830 in dash touchscreen dvd head unit.

I consider myself to be technologically savvy. I build computers on a regular basis, and I have installed at least 6 or so car stereos in various vehicles. Axxess could use a good re-write of the instructions is all i'm saying.

They could use a much better explanation of the wires. They could surely use some starting explanations of what to expect when installing, like you will probably only use a few of the wires on the unit. Looking at the mess of wires in the beginning can be a bit overwhelming.

My biggest problem however was how the instructions told me the wrong wire to use from the axxess unit. Their website I do not consider to be HORRIBLE, but it isn't great either. Both in the booklet that came with the unit and on the website, the wrong wire to use was given. Thank goodness they provided a pdf file to download (a little link with not much of an explanation of what it is on the website) that had the correct wire. I spent way too much time trying to reprogram the unit (which the instructions truly could use a revamping of also) only to find that I had the wrong wire connected. Once the correct wire was plugged in, the auto detect did it's job and things worked as expected.

I am not about to go back and try and reprogram things manually if I wanted to change functions for something, because their information is just not organized in a friendly fashion.

But it does do what I want. The volume buttons change the volume, and the up and down arrow buttons change the tracks on my ipod or seek on my radio (they don't go through presets, but i'm ok with that). And the mode button changes my source (radio, bluetooth, cd, a/v, radio, dvd, whatever)

So overall it is actually a great unit, that after getting a grip on what the instructions are trying to say and finding a document that tells you the correct connections, it does what it is supposed to.

After hooking it up once, I could easily hook it up again in another vehicle in no time flat.
