Great gift item for DeWalt users Feb 02, 2000

If you own a DeWalt 14.4v battery powered product you will be able to use this flashlight. 1. Its brighter then anything I've owned (including MAG lights) & holds a spare bulb behind the lens for backup. 2. Lets you fully utilize the batteries that came with my 14.4v DeWalt drill. 3. Very sturdy (like my drill) 4. Neck swivels from 90 degrees to 180 degrees, locks at 25% intervals in between. 5. Easy to see (bright yellow color) 6. Batteries are rechargeable (not included)
Update on 7-1-10: Compatible with the new lithium ion batteries. (looks funny, but works fully) Bulb is older style not the new LED style. Not sure if you can replace it with an LED bulb.

Very Durable Nov 14, 2003
By G. Sumner I have had two of these flashlights since they first came out (in 1993 or 1994 I think) and we use them constantly! Each light is used an average of 4 times per night to "take the dogs out" in addition to other incidentals. I love the fact that I can set the flashlight down, the weight of battery holding it in place, and can use the swivel head to direct the light. I have NEVER had a problem with the swivel heads. These things are very durable. They have been in the dust, dropped from ladders onto semi-hard surfaces a few times, out in the snow and rain, stepped on and knocked over a ton of times - in plain English, just used and abused, but they still keep working! Battery life on these flashlights is about 3 hours of continuous use and I have changed the bulbs only about 3 times on each light. The light is bright enough to light up the dogs pretty well about 60 to 75 feet away - depending on the battery charge state. When we lose power I set up a couple of the lights in the house and point them at the ceiling to light up the rooms. MUCH safer than candles... It may sound kind of expensive at a total cost of $94 ($25 per light + ~$60 for a battery + $3 each for the bulbs) but I figure about 1 hour use per day, per light for 10 years (and still counting) results in a cost of just 2.6 cents per hour!!! (not including the electricity cost for the charger). If you already own a Dewalt rechargeable tool, the cost of ownership drops to less than a penny per hour based on my experience. How can you beat that investment??? My only small nit with these lights is the switch can sometimes be hard to turn on. I found that a dab of Di-Electric Grease every couple years on the switch easily fixes that. If these lights ever die, I would ABSOLUTELY replace them with the same model. Short of a major disaster, I would say these things have at least another 10 years left in them!

Accessory Mar 28, 2004

This is a nice accessory to have, if you already own a DeWalt battery pack and the charger. Basically, that would limit my recommendation of this product to those who already own a cordless 14.4 volt DeWalt tool. While the flashlight itself is relatively inexpensive at about $25, the battery pack and the charger are not. The battery pack cost more than $50 apiece. Add the cost of the charger and you get the idea that this is not a flashlight system that you buy on its own. But, if you already own the battery packs and the charger, then spending an additional $25 will get you a very powerful and durable flashlight. I bought this flashlight because I already own the 14.4 volt XRP drill. The flashlight and drill are sharing the two batteries that came with the drill. This is a very nice, wide-beam flashlight. The craftsmanship is what you would expect from DeWalt. The light is made of quality materials. And, due to the design and the bottom-heaviness of the battery pack, this flashlight can "stand" on its own. Perfect for those times when you don't have someone to hold the light for you. And, because it throws a wide beam, this unit can illuminate quite a lot of area. I highly recommend this high quality light to those who already own a DeWalt tool that uses the 14.4 volt battery pack.

Ive been an electrician for almost 20 years and this is with out a doubt the best flashlight ive ever used. Only problem is w/me i have lost more than several of these puppies over the years, i tend to leave them in attics. Its not cheap, roughly [money] for the flashlite and [more money] for a battery. Im using a [inexpensive] throw-a-way flashlite @ present, he , he, but will buy another battery and flashlite soon...
