1There's an alternative!!  Feb 03, 2008
By Mark Snyder
I went through 2 of these chargers before I found out that the DeWalt DW9116 7.2-Volt to 18-Volt Pod Style 1 Hour Battery Charger works with the Black & Decker Firestorm batteries. Plus, it's a better charger. Don't waste your money on the B&D charger. I've had the Dewalt charger for about 5 years now & it works great.

1Can I rate less than 1  Oct 16, 2007
By Aaron Peterson
This charger is a POS. It came with my cordess drill. Look at the instructions on the charger. It says "batteries more than 2 years old may damage the charger". WTF!
Mine died, I have no idea how old the battery is, but I was able to charge it with a different 21 volt power supply. The transformer on this thing only puts out 210 milliamps, and if you draw much more current than that, the transformer burns itself out.
Gosh, a circuit breaker or some other form of circuit protection would have cost an extra 10 cents to design into the charger, but Black and Decker decided to leave it out. Heck, even an extra resistor would have limited the current to the battery. Walk away from this charger. There's a reason why it is so cheap.
I opened the dead charger up, and there wasn't much inside it. Basically it is a transformer and and LED.

1Buy a Dewalt DW9116 charger instead  Jun 22, 2008
By Eric Rud
My brother and I both have Firestorm drills and both of us had our chargers burn out with in a few months of each other. We both like our drills but hate the charger. I was about to order another one from Amazon but read Mark's review about buying a Dewalt DW9116 charger instead. The Dewalt charge is much much better. Definetly buy the Dewalt instead of another one of the Firestorm OEM chargers.

1Do not buy  May 22, 2007
By Edward L. White
The charger works OK if you have good batteries. However if you have a bad cell in your battery and do not know it you will blow out the charger when it reaches the bad cell. Therefore you have to check your batteries to make sure they are good before every charge. Not practical.
