 Good but not great and doesnt last Sep 27, 2010

I purchased this item for the simple fact that is was half the price of a brand name battery. Naturally I bought two since the reviews were so great. When I first bought my drill in 2001 I was an electrical apprentice and used it for at least 1 hr a day and at time all day long. Now I am a mechanic and dont use it as often, however the battery life just doesnt seem to last when you let it set for a few days. Ill charge them both on a monday and then by friday ill be lucky to drill 10 holes in 1/4in steel. However if I charge it the same day I use it, it works just as well as the origional. For the money its a good deal, just make sure you plan on using it daily.
Its now been over a year that I have had the batteries and they just dont stand up to the name brand. I would have rather bought one Dewalt battery than the two I have simple because all the Dewalt batteries I have had last for about 5 years. After one year of only using them a couple of hours a week, they now will barely last 20 minutes and that is if I take them right off of the charger. Pay the extra for the name brand, you will thank yourself in the long run.

Ignore the reviews that praise this battery. I used mine for the first time yesterday, after a full charge. I put in about 6 pieces of blocking between floor joists, and this morning on the roof, as I was trying to cut through for vent flashing, the battery died. My worn out Dewalts do better than this. Do not buy this junk.

Like many, I ordered this battery to bring new life to my old Dewalt 14.4V (DW983) drill. I received it promptly, and popped it into the drill to check fit. Absolutely perfect fit--seemed a great replacement for the original batteries (DW9091). Popped it in the Dewalt charger (DW9107). An hour later I returned to find the battery melting (it was quite hot) over the charger, with liquid from the battery oozing everywhere. This charger has been working flawlessly with the original batteries, and nothing appeared to short the terminals. Based on the Amazon description, this battery is a direct replacement for the Dewalt DW9091. I'm not an electrical genius, and am wondering if this battery doesn't work with the original charger? Did I mess up or did I get a defective battery?

Batteries came in very timely manner, charged and ready to perform. Seem to have as much if not more torque than original batteries. Great value for the money.
